Expected High Winds Prompt Air Quality Alert In Phoenix Tuesday

Strong, gusty winds are expected to cause blowing dust in the metro Phoenix area, according to the National Weather Service.

PHOENIX, AZ — The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for the Phoenix metro area for Tuesday.

The weather service issued the pollution advisory ahead of forecast strong and gusty winds on Tuesday that are expected to cause blowing dust that would impact air quality.

Coarse particulate matter, or dust in the air, can cause issues for people who already have heart and lung conditions, especially for older people, children and people with asthma.

The weather service advises Phoenicians to consolidate their travel on Tuesday, stabilize loose soil, slow down or avoid driving on dirt roads, refrain from using fireplaces and avoid using gas-powered lawn equipment.

Tuesday's high in the Phoenix area is expected to be around 78 degrees with winds of 5-15 mph in the morning and 10-15 mph in the afternoon, with the possibility of gusts up to 25 mph, the weather service said. The Tuesday night low is forecast at 47 degrees, according to the weather service.
