A fiery two-vehicle crash involving a stolen car in Phoenix left three people dead and six others hurt, police say.

PHOENIX — A fiery two-vehicle crash involving a stolen car in Phoenix left three people dead and six others hurt, police said.

Phoenix police said early Friday they were at the scene of a "very serious," multi-vehicle collision at 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road. The intersection was shut down in all directions and police expected it would effect the morning commute.

On Friday afternoon, police said the vehicle was stolen and heading north on 43rd Avenue when it crashed into a southbound car making a left turn onto Thunderbird Road. The stolen car was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, police said.

The car that was hit immediately burst into flames with three people inside. All three, believed to be adults, died of their injuries, police said.

A total of six people, including teens and young adults, were inside the stolen vehicle. All six were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

No names were immediately released. The roadway remained closed.
