Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Meteorologist Sean Benedict said this week that appears Phoenix will be hitting its first 100-degree day of 2023 this weekend. The average first triple-digit degree day is on May 2 and it looks like this year it May be coming early with Sunday, Apr. 30 projected at a high of 102 degrees. The city came close to exceeding 100 degrees earlier this month as on Apr. 11 hit a record high of 99 degrees but fell just short of officially hitting 100 degrees. Phoenix residents and visitors should prepare for a warmer weekend with Friday and Saturday's temperatures reaching the upper 90s ahead of Sunday. (KTAR.com)
  2. It has been declared that Phoenix will be observing Indigenous Peoples Day as an annual holiday and it will now be a paid day off. President Biden formally commemorated the holiday back in 2021 and the Phoenix City Council followed suit earlier this week voting the day in as a paid holiday beginning this year. Offices in the city will be off on the second Monday of October every year moving forward, this year the holiday falls on Monday, Oct. 9. (Daily Independent)
  3. The Phoenix Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night in the city near 11th and Clarendon Avenues. The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. in Central Phoenix hospitalizing one man with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene said that the suspect fled the scene prior to the police arriving, what led to the shooting is still unknown at this point. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)

  • A new study by Bumper.com found that electric vehicle ‘charging deserts’ – places where charging stations and ports are in short supply – stretch across states, largely divided by economic and racial lines.
