Freeze Watch Issued For Sunday Morning In Phoenix: NWS
Rain to begin late Thursday night with chances of thunderstorms on Friday.
PHOENIX, AZ — The entire Valley is expected to hit the lower 30s on early Sunday morning, prompting a the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch.
Phoenicians are advised to cover sensitive outdoor plants and to drain, wrap or allow outdoor water pipes to slowly drip to prevent them from bursting. The freeze watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Rain is expected to hit the Phoenix area again late Thursday night, with showers and thunderstorms possible after 2 a.m. Friday. There's a 100 percent chance of rain Friday with a continued possibility of thunderstorms and rain throughout the night, according to the weather service forecast.

Rainfall totals are expected to be between one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch, with bigger totals possible in thunderstorms. Thunderstorms could produce wind gusts and small hail.
Higher terrain east of Phoenix is expected to see the most rainfall, with a possibility of 1-2 inches, according to the weather service forecast.

The expected high on New Year's Eve is 59 degrees in Phoenix, with an overnight low around 46. The expected high on New Year's Day is 57, with an overnight low around 34, with temperatures expected to dip to freezing or colder in parts of the Valley.
