TUCSON, AZ — Former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords was released from the hospital Saturday, after being admitted Tuesday to be treated for appendicitis, she said on her official Facebook account.

"I'm getting better, let's go," Giffords said in a video posted Saturday from her hospital room.

Giffords said she was thankful to be suffering from only appendicitis, while remembering her release from the hospital 11 years ago after she was shot in the head during an assassination attempt. Her injuries from the shooting forced her to give up her promising political career, but she has since become an active and vocal advocate for gun control.

Giffords added that she was, "grateful for friends, family, my incredible medical team, and of course Captain Mark Kelly, who gives true meaning to 'in sickness and in health.'"

Kelly, a U.S. Senator repressing Arizona, headed home to Tucson from the nation's capitol Wednesday to be with Giffords, the Arizona Republic reported.
