Gunshot Round From Drug Deal Gone Awry Hits Passerby Vehicle

A Phoenix drug deal went wrong Thursday night, leaving 1 participant shot. A random passerby's vehicle was hit by a round too.

PHOENIX, AZ – The Phoenix Police Department reported that a 19-year-old man was shot and a random passerby’s vehicle was hit by a round after a drug deal went wrong Thursday around 6:30 p.m.

Thursday night Phoenix police officers were called out to the area of 33rd Avenue and Greenway Road on a reported shooting. Officers found a 19-year-old young man struck by gunshots, and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening but serious injuries.

Police soon found out that the victim and the two young men accused of shooting him – Eecho Lane, 18, and Zerion Brown, 19 – knew each other. Police also learned the purpose of the three men’s meeting: to engage in an illegal drug sale. However, the drug transaction went wrong when the suspects allegedly tried to rob the victim. While the victim attempted to get away from the suspects, the two young men shot at him. When doing so, one of the gun rounds happened to strike the vehicle of a 60-year-old woman driving in the vicinity. The woman wasn’t injured.
