Gusty Winds And Rain, Lows In The 40s Headed For Phoenix

Some isolated areas around Phoenix could see freezing temperatures this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenicians should brace themselves for cold, wind and rain, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

As a cold front moves quickly across the region Thursday evening into Friday it will bring with it a 90 percent chance of rain and a west wind of 5-15 mph with possible gusts of up to 20 mph, the National Weather Service predicted.

Low desert areas could see up to a half-inch of rain, with higher elevations in eastern Maricopa County possibly getting up to three-quarters of an inch.

There's a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday night, which could bring up to one inch of rainfall in localized areas.

The cold front will also bring cooler temperatures this weekend, with expected highs of 65 degrees and 68 degrees on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Lows in the Phoenix area this weekend are likely to reach the low 40s, with the possibility that some areas in south central Arizona could dip into the 30s or even hit the freezing mark.

Another weather system could be headed to the region next week, bringing with it a continued chance of wind and rain in Phoenix, the weather service predicted.
