Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. New information obtained from a medical examiner's report sheds light on the tragic incident that occurred last December, where a Phoenix woman killed her teenage son before taking her own life. The report revealed that 17-year-old Gunther Saline was found with a gunshot wound to his head while hooked up to his CPAP machine which was still running on Dec. 14; it is believed he was asleep at the time of his death. While no motive or explanation has been provided, toxicology reports show that Saline was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and he seemed to be in good health otherwise, according to the report. 2. Pamela Williams, the founder of Journey Out of Homelessness, is on a mission to help the homeless community in Phoenix. After spending nearly two years without a home herself, Williams wants to teach financial literacy to those who have been priced out of housing and provide shelter in transitional homes. Her organization is preparing to feed 400 people on Saturday at "the Zone," an area south of Jefferson Street between Ninth and 13th avenues, and plans to bring two more events to the area later this year. 3. On Wednesday, Arizona educators gathered at the state's capitol to demand lawmakers tackle the state's growing teacher retention crisis. According to the Arizona Education Association, there were over 2,800 teacher vacancies as of January, and almost half of all open positions were filled by people who don't meet the state's teaching requirements. The educators are asking for lawmakers to fund public schools fully and pass the 2023 Educator's Budget, which includes higher salaries for teachers and staff, healthcare for teachers, and funding for student mental health support.
