LEGION Act Affects Southern Arizona Vets
The LEGION Act President Donald Trump signed into law last month is opening doors for veterans across Southern Arizona and nationwide.
PHOENIX, AZ — Thousands of veterans in Southern Arizona and nationwide stand to benefit from the new LEGION (Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities for National Service) Act. Under the law, sponsored in part by Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema and signed last month by President Donald Trump, honorably discharged veterans are now eligible for American Legion membership. Eligibility starts at Dec. 7, 1941, continuing to a future date when Congress declares the country is no longer engaged in wartime activities. Before the Act went into effect, American Legion membership was restricted solely to veterans who served during declared hostility periods.
Pima County has 15 American Legion posts, while Maricopa County has 43 of the state's 100. Find out more about how this Act is affecting Southern Arizona veterans at KOLD.
