Man Killed By Police After Walking Toward Officer With Knife

A Phoenix police officer responding to a domestic violence call shot and killed a man who had a knife, Phoenix police said.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 31-year-old man was shot and killed by police Tuesday night after he moved toward an officer with a knife in his hand, Phoenix police said.

Miguel F. Hernandez-Rodriguez was killed in the police shooting just after 7 p.m. at an apartment complex near north 30th and east Roosevelt streets, according to police.

The woman that called police suffered minor injuries from an earlier assault, and the five children in the apartment at the time of the police shooting were uninjured, police said.

Authorities responded to the scene in response to a domestic violence call from a woman who said that Hernandez-Rodriguez had struck her and had a knife on him, police said.

One of the two responding officers, who was not identified by police, told Hernandez-Rodriguez to drop the knife, according to police. Hernandez-Rodriguez ignored the order and walked toward the officer, according to police.
