Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. The Phoenix Police Department aims to increase the number of female officers and achieve a staff diversity of 30 percent by 2030. While progress has been slow, the department signed the 30x30 Initiative, a national effort to advance women in policing, believing that a more inclusive police force will better serve the community. Although the department faces challenges in recruiting and retaining female officers, they are actively seeking feedback from current officers to improve their recruitment tactics and encourage more women to join the force. (Cronkite News)
  2. During the early hours of Tuesday morning, a drive-by pellet gun shooting in Phoenix left five individuals injured, according to the city's police department. Responding to reports of a potential shooting at the Maryland and 19th avenues intersection, officers discovered the victims with injuries that appeared to be caused by a pellet gun. Three of the victims required transportation to a nearby hospital. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. (12news.com KPNX)
  3. The Crack Shack, a fast-casual chicken restaurant originally from Southern California, is expanding into Arizona by opening two locations in the Phoenix metro area in early 2024. The first location will be at 1902 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix, occupying a prominent spot that was previously occupied by Brenda's Inferno sports bar, which closed in December 2021. Savory Restaurant Fund, a financial backer of the chain, confirmed these plans. (KTAR.com)
