SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A mother is planning to stage a "nurse-in" after being asked to go to a private area to breastfeed at a Scottsdale school, according to reports. Theresa Phillips said she was visiting her daughter's school when she needed to breastfeed her infant while the kids were at recess.

The incident last week at Kiva Elementary began when Phillips was approached by Assistant Principal Matt Gromek, the Arizona Republic reported, who asked her to go to a different room. Then she started recording.

"You can send me into a different room?" Phillips asks. "I don't need privacy."

"I would prefer that," Gromek responds.

The discussion that followed caused Phillips to set up the "nurse-in" which is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Kiva Elementary, the Republic reported.

Arizona law allows women to breastfeed in public places.

Scottsdale Unified School District said in a statement Phillips was approached over her breastfeeding because "they recognized that not all activities are age-appropriate," the Republic reported.
