Six talented students from Phoenix Day School for the Deaf (PDSD) have garnered national recognition, winning awards in the Youth De’VIA art contest, a competition that emphasizes deaf culture and perspectives. Freshman Michael Montenegro, who earned accolades for his computer-generated art titled "Shine," inspired by the American Sign Language (ASL) sign for the word, wants to use his achievement to uplift others. Meanwhile, art teacher Erwin Carlson hopes to heighten deaf representation in Phoenix, advocating for the creation of ASL murals throughout the city. Click the link to view artwork by the students.   2. In Phoenix, a man was arrested after hitting two pedestrians with a PT Cruiser near 19th Avenue and Camelback on Sunday night, following a reported altercation. The incident escalated when he subsequently crashed into an SUV while attempting to flee the scene. Both victims were hospitalized, one in critical condition, amid ongoing investigations into potential gunshots in the vicinity. (Arizona's Family)

  • If you were commuting yesterday (Aug. 21), you may have noticed I-10 was closed near Mini Stack in Phoenix. The closure was due to a police incident, which was resolved after several hours of negotiations. All lanes have been reopened and the person was arrested and booked and will receive mental health services. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
