Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- A Phoenix man, 51-year-old Dwayne Keith Anderson, was sentenced to six months in prison on Monday for supplying a firearm to Essa Williams, the alleged assailant of Officer Tyler Moldovan, using false identification. Though the weapon provided wasn't used in the attack, Anderson facilitated Williams in bypassing a background check by exploiting a woman's details. Officer Moldovan, shot multiple times, has been in recovery since the 2021 incident. (12news.com KPNX)
- Phoenix witnessed a significant 6.1 percent decrease in home values in July, ranking it second in the nation for the most substantial dip, according to the Zillow Home Value Index. This decline, outpaced only by Austin, Texas at 10.1 percent, stands in contrast to the broader U.S. trend, where the average home value increased by 0.9 percent from June to July. Despite this drop, the national housing landscape indicates a typical late-summer cooldown, suggesting Phoenix's market may also be influenced by larger seasonal trends. (Arizona Big Media)
- In an accident in north Phoenix on Wednesday, a dialysis patient crashed into a clinic near 19th and Dunlap avenues, injuring three people, and igniting calls for increased safety measures at treatment centers. The incident has resurfaced painful memories for Jacinda Contreras, whose mother was involved in a fatal crash after dialysis treatment in 2021, leading Contreras to blame the clinics for not taking patient concerns seriously. Amid concerns over patients driving post-treatment, she is urging the centers to prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies, insisting that the consequences of ignoring patient feedback can be fatal.
