Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Police responded to a shooting Tuesday night in Phoenix that resulted in one man detained and one man dead. Around 11:20 p.m., police arrived at a north Phoenix apartment near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road where they detained a man outside the apartment and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside. The gunshot victim was identified as Treyvon Simons, who was transported to a local hospital before being pronounced dead. The man who was detained was released after claiming he shot Simons out of self-defense during a fight. The case is currently being reviewed. (KTAR.com)
- After 21 years of being known as "Outlets at Anthem," the popular Phoenix shopping center is changing its name to "Outlets North Phoenix." The reason for the name change is reportedly due to how much the area has developed, and the shopping center has evolved into the preferred center in North Phoenix. The center is located right off Interstate 17 and Anthem Way. (KTAR.com)
- This past Tuesday, a Phoenix teacher was arrested and booked on one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. Samuel Gerald Bauman worked for Mesa Unified School District #4 and Phoenix Union High School as a teacher and was found to be allegedly having sexual conversations with a five-year-old on social media. An undercover investigator with Homeland Security posed as the father of the child during this exchange and continued to gather information while building the case against Bauman. Once enough was gathered, a "meet-up" was set up between the child and Bauman where he was greeted by agents taking him into custody. (Arizona's Family)
