Police Identify Phoenix Pedestrian Killed By Sidewalk Collision

The Phoenix Police Department today identified the man who died Tuesday after he was struck by an SUV on a Phoenix sidewalk.

PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Police have identified the man who died from his injuries after being struck by an SUV as he walked with a woman on a Phoenix sidewalk near 14600 N. 52nd Street Tuesday morning. That man was 69-year-old Thomas Lewis.

Lewis and the 69-year-old female with whom he was walking were struck around 8 a.m. by an SUV whose 71-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle, leaving the roadway and colliding with the two pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Lewis was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead later. The woman struck by the SUV was transported to the hospital too, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries from which she is recovering.

The SUV’s driver stayed at the accident scene, where police observed no signs of driver impairment; however, police continue to investigate the incident.
