Maricopa County Animal Care and Control advises:

  • Keep pets indoors as much as possible and keep them on a leash when outside, even in your own yard.
  • Make sure your dog is always wearing a collar with tags that have your current contact information.
  • If your pet has a microchip, ensure the information registered with it is current.
  • Make sure your pet has a safe place to hide if they feel scare. You can help your pet associate their hiding place with positive memories by using favorite bedding, toys and treats.
  • In case your pet does escape, make sure you have an updated, clear photo of your pet to share.
