Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- A tiger cub seized by the Phoenix Police Department is being relocated to The Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota, where she will join 130 other big cats in a luxurious habitat equipped with amenities such as heated indoor bedrooms, pools, and caves. The cub, named Indy, was initially taken into custody in January after an individual attempted to sell her on social media for $25,000. The suspect involved in the case, Carlos Castro Alcaraz, is scheduled to face trial in July on a felony charge related to the unlawful sale of wildlife. (KTAR.com)
- A construction worker lost their life on Thursday in a devastating collision on I-10 in Phoenix. During the early hours of Thursday, a semi-truck struck a commercial boom lift vehicle, which was in the process of transitioning from the closed lanes to the right shoulder in the westbound lanes of a construction zone near Guadalupe Road and I-10. The impact caused the worker to be ejected from the lift. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the unnamed victim succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the semi remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities, while details regarding the cause of the crash remain unknown. (Arizona's Family)
- Two Phoenix teens co-founded a summer camp to help children who struggle with math. Karina Zaveri and Kaitlyn Markham, co-founders of MathMagicians Camp, started the initiative with the goal to provide a safe and enjoyable learning space for children aged five to 10 with ADHD and dyslexia. Recognized as a valuable endeavor, the teens were awarded a $5,000 grant to support the camp's launch, which will take place in June in Scottsdale.
