Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- Sagewood, a senior living community in north Phoenix, has been honored with the "Gold Standard" award for its exceptional memory care program, Heartfelt Connections. The program is based on personalized care, focusing on each resident's capabilities and unique abilities to support their daily functioning and maintain a sense of purpose and dignity. Using life stations and points of interest stations, staff create activities tailored to residents' past experiences and interests, fostering independence and overall well-being while avoiding over-caring. - Starting on Aug. 12, people with 602 and 623 area codes in metro Phoenix will have to dial 10 digits for local phone calls due to an overlay plan aimed at eliminating geographical boundaries and expanding available phone numbers. The 480 area code already underwent this change last year due to running out of available numbers. However, no phone numbers will change with this overlay, but some equipment associated with the numbers may need reprogramming. The geographic boundaries will be completely removed on Sept. 12, and the new area code changes won't affect pricing for calls between different area codes. (Arizona's Family)
- Phoenix Children's Hospital will open its new emergency department in Avondale on Jul. 26 at 9:00 a.m., providing much-needed pediatric care for the growing community in the area. The 35,000-square-foot facility, which hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, will feature 40 treatment rooms, on-site labs, imaging, and 24/7 emergency care, catering to both less acute and more critically ill children. Local parents, such as Ryan and Jill Lomanaco, have expressed their relief and gratitude for having close, quality care available in the West Valley, eliminating the need to travel downtown for medical attention.
