Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Phoenix nonprofit Social Spin, led by owner Christy Moore, has partnered with autonomous driving technology company Waymo to connect residents to resources such as healthcare checks and voter registration through laundry services. Social Spin's laundromats, with two locations in Phoenix, serve as vibrant community hubs, offering haircuts, food storage, and more. The collaboration with Waymo has significantly streamlined laundry services for a transitional housing community it serves, allowing case workers at Native American Connections more time to provide essential human services. 2. American Airlines recently announced the addition of two new routes from Phoenix, including service to Tijuana, Mexico, and Pasco, Washington. The Tijuana route will strengthen America's connection between Phoenix and Mexico, with the airline increasing service to Guadalajara as well. The new flights are scheduled to commence on Feb. 15, 2024, and bookings can be made starting Jul. 30 on the American Airlines website. (The Arizona Republic)
  3. In Phoenix, converted shipping containers are being used to provide shelter for people in need. These containers, located at the St. Vincent de Paul Washington Relief Center, are equipped with solar power and air conditioning, offering private rooms for up to 20 individuals. The City of Phoenix plans to expand this initiative by adding 900 more shelter beds in 2023 and 2024, following the addition of nearly 600 beds in 2022. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
