Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. On Monday, a teenage student was taken into custody following reports of a suspicious person at Arcadia High School in Phoenix, which led to a lockdown of the school. Phoenix Police investigated the school but found no confirmed threats or weapons. As of the time of this writing, the high school remains on a modified lockdown to facilitate parents who wish to pick up their children, while the nearby Tavan Elementary School was temporarily put on lockdown as a precaution. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
  2. In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, a Phoenix bakery is offering free cupcakes to teachers. Educators can order free cupcakes, offered by Sugar & Lace Bakery, through the bakery's Facebook page (must present a school ID for pick-up). This initiative, started in 2018, aims to recognize teachers for their often-overlooked contributions. Last year, around 160,000 cupcakes were distributed, and the bakery hopes to give away more this year. (Arizona's Family)
  3. With the aim to provide relief to people who are in need of shade, water, and air conditioning during the summer months, the Maricopa County Association of Governments (MAG) is launching hundreds of heat relief stations in the Valley. The Heat Relief Network offers various resources such as indoor areas with air conditioning, drinking water, and places to rest. The network also has a list of donation collection sites for items like water, clothing, and sunblock. You can view a map of the network here. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
