Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Tuesday night the Rosztoczy Foundation surprised third graders from the Madrid Neighborhood School with the promise of full-ride scholarships to public Arizona Universities. The foundation began this program in 2012 offering scholarships to students in Avondale and the foundation held its promise and supported the 37 who are attending or attended some college. The foundation aims to support students pursuing higher education in low-income areas. According to the school district, 90 percent of students in Madrid Neighborhood School qualify for free or reduced lunch. (Subscription: The Arizona Republic)
  2. Early Tuesday morning, Makiah Coleman of Arkansas was arrested at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for allegedly assaulting three TSA officers in a dispute over apple juice. Coleman reportedly became upset with officers who disposed of her apple juice because you are not allowed to take large amounts of liquid through the checkpoint, Coleman began to rant and attempted to receive her beverage before being pushed away by officers. A scuffle ensued and she reportedly bit, punched, elbowed, and pulled the hair of officers before Phoenix police arrived on the scene and took the woman into custody. Two of the three agents were taken to the hospital for treatment and Coleman now faces several charges, she is currently being held on a bond of $4,500. (Arizona Daily Star)
  3. It is projected that in March 2024 the Streamliner 16th housing project will be leasing apartments for the community with the first residents moving in a month later. The construction for the new affordable housing project broke ground on Tuesday and it is said to be working on 208 new rental studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. Greenhouse Communities made a commitment six years ago to provide affordable and attainable housing options for residents in the community and continue to make strides in that direction. Other Streamliner properties around the valley have an average rent of $1,250 per month, the company is excited to bring more housing to Downtown Phoenix. (KTAR.com)
