Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Two men, identified as Shane Coates and Ryan Jacob, both aged 38, were found dead in Phoenix's Salt River after being missing for a week. Authorities were alerted to their disappearance on Apr. 9 when they received reports of two men yelling for help in the river. While life vests were spotted in the water, they may have been lost due to the river's strong current. The men were known for their love of water sports, according to friends and family. (KESQ)
  2. While Tomaso's Italian Restaurant in Phoenix is closing in May, the founder's family is opening a new restaurant across the street called Il Massetos, set to open in early 2024. Joey Maggiore, founder Tomaso Maggiore's son, is the founder and CEO of the new fine dining concept featuring outdoor dining patios, private dining rooms, and a piano bar. Il Massetos will serve restaurant favorites from Tomaso's, with a twist on his father's classic Italian dishes. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  3. Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is celebrating National Pet ID Week by hosting a free "Tag Your Wag" event, providing microchipping and new licenses to help ensure dogs in the community have proper identification. The event is running now through Apr. 21 and aims to chip 60 dogs per day on a first-come, first-served basis, while also offering new licenses at no cost to owners during regular business hours. The initiative is crucial, given that less than 20 percent of stray dogs that come into the shelter have a microchip, making it difficult for them to be reunited with their owners.
