UNITS of Phoenix Gets Vibrant Facelift as Part of Mural Project

Those passing by UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Phoenix’s location in Mesa will notice a new, eye-catching mural gracing the face of their facility.

A 100-foot-long mural covers the entire frontage of the business and features vibrant colors and images designed to positively represent the sizeable Asian community in that neighborhood.

It’s part of Mesa’s Asian District Mural Project. Mesa city officials approached Ron Davis, President of UNITS of Phoenix, and asked if he would be interested in a public-private partnership
to enhance the neighborhood, which is commonly referred to as “The Asian District.”

Davis quickly said, ‘yes,’ and began working with the Yvette Armendariz with the City of Mesa Office of Economic Development who he says was phenomenal to work with and extremely detailed throughout the entire process.

“This was a win-win for all parties, and I’m so happy that Mesa officials considered us for participation in this project,” said Davis. “The difference to the outside of our facility is like night and day and is drawing the attention of those who pass by. This was an opportunity to enhance and welcome the Asian community we are a part of while beautifying our building. We are thrilled with the outcome!”

The Asian District Community Mural Project is designed to be a celebration of the diversity of cultures, community, and commerce that make up Mesa’s unique hub of more than 70 Asian-owned restaurants, grocery stores, retail shops, and other business services.

“Mesa’s Asian District is not only a destination for those who live here but a great attraction for our entire region,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles. “The addition of these murals will be another great way to discover and explore everything the Asian District has to offer.”

Visitors are encouraged to engage with the art by taking photos with the murals, learning more about the symbols and their meaning to the culture, and sharing their experiences. The colorful mural on the side of the UNITS building features a dragon, a tiger, and other Asian symbols.

UNITS of Phoenix chose the mural and the artist, Sandra Bosscher, while the city of Mesa helped fund the project. The mural took two weeks to prepare and an additional three weeks to create.

“This mural in the Asian District intertwines many Asian cultures, history, and celebrations together to show unity,” said Bosscher. “It’s a celebration of diversity through bright colors and movement.”
