Where To Find Arizona's Unhealthiest Menu Item

A popular nutrition site offers its take on the unhealthiest orders in every state. Here's where you can pick up your new guilty pleasure.

PHOENIX, AZ — If you assumed that the unhealthiest restaurant order in Arizona was from a pizza place or a burger joint, you're wrong. This is Arizona people, the most deliciously decadent meal is obviously from a Mexican restaurant.

According to the Eat This, Not That website, the state's most artery clogging meal is the fried chicken poblano at Macayo's in Mesa.

"Mexican restaurants have the potential to pack in a ton of calories and fat into each meal, but one Arizona restaurant takes the cake," the website said in its review.

The website referenced a Phoenix New Times report on Macayo's over-the-top dishes, many with 3,000 calories per plate. Macayo's serves plenty of fried food smothered in its cream cheese-like Baja sauce.

If you want to set a record for your daily calorie count, you could start off your meal at Macayo's with its battered and deep fried bite sized green corn tamales, served with its previously mentioned Baja sauce, or start out with a plate of carne asada fries.
