Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. In a distressing incident caught on a Ring security camera in north Phoenix, a woman was seen being chased by a truck during her nighttime run near Lookout Mountain. The frightened woman sought refuge at Mandy Hunt's home, the only residence with a lit porch light, initially arousing suspicion but quickly gaining Hunt's sympathy and assistance. The woman plans to file a police report, though updates from the Phoenix Police are still pending. (Arizona's Family)
  2. An up to $2,000 reward is being offered by Silent Witness for leads on the murder of 37-year-old Erika Gerardo, who was found with fatal stab wounds behind a Big Lots store in west Phoenix near 75th Avenue and McDowell Road. The incident took place between 1:20 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Tipsters can contact Silent Witness anonymously at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (480-837-8446) for Spanish speakers or online at silentwitness.org. (Arizona's Family)
  3. Phoenix has initiated a pilot program at Sunnyslope Manor, an affordable housing complex, to install toilet sensors that notify apartment managers of leaks in real-time, aiming to conserve water and reduce water bills. This move follows residents' calls for water-leak detection systems, especially after a recent water rate hike; if effective, the sensors may expand to other city facilities and communal areas. Amidst growing concerns over water sustainability, Phoenix has been implementing various strategies, including plans for an advanced water purification plant and a "Sustainable Desert City Development Policy" to diversify water sources and enhance efficiency.
