1. Wireless Industry Wants FCC to Cap Local Permitting Fees, Impose Shot Clocks (broadbandbreakfast.com) — Scottsdale’s right-of-way fees for wireless equipment are under federal scrutiny, with the FCC weighing rules that could cap what cities can charge and speed permit approvals. City officials argue their up-to-$30,000 annual fees help safely manage 2,600 lane-miles of roads and critical infrastructure, warning preemption could strain local budgets and oversight.

2. The 10 most popular Tempe Independent Stories of 2025 (yourvalley.net) — Several of Tempe’s biggest 2025 stories touched Scottsdale, including a burglary ring accused of targeting homes in both Mesa and Scottsdale and traffic cameras monitoring drivers near Scottsdale Road. The roundup also highlights development projects, crime cases, and neighborhood disputes that may affect how nearby communities grow and stay safe.

3. Fire officials in Scottsdale have strict regulations permitting the use of certain types of fireworks (kyma.com) — Scottsdale fire officials are reminding residents that only ground-based consumer fireworks like fountains, sparklers, and poppers are legal for New Year’s celebrations, while anything that launches into the air is banned. Local firefighters demonstrated how powerful illegal fireworks can be and cited national injury statistics to urge residents to celebrate safely and avoid emergency room visits.

4. Report says ex-Coyotes star, amid personal tragedy, named to Olympics (azcentral.com) — Scottsdale hockey roots will be on display at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with Auston Matthews and Scottsdale-born brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk all reportedly on Team USA. They’ll join former Coyotes star Clayton Keller, now in Utah, whose selection comes just weeks after his father’s sudden passing.
