At the scene, officers did find materials used in the development of explosives, police said.
Police K-9s and the Tempe Police Department Bomb Squad were brought into the dorm, where they safely removed any potentially explosive materials.
The materials were then impounded by the Tempe Police Department, according to authorities.
"I commend the student who filed the initial report," ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson said in a statement. "We always say, 'if you see something, say something.' This student saw a situation they were uncomfortable with, and followed their instincts."
The ASUPD said the case remains under investigation.
