ASU Tempe Campus Vandalized With Racist Graffiti

TEMPE, AZ — Arizona State University police are investigating after racist graffiti was found near the Tempe campus.

A spokesperson for the ASU Police Department told Patch that graffiti involving racial slurs against Black people found near Mill Avenue and Apache Boulevard was immediately removed Friday.

"The ASU Police Department is disgusted by the blatant act of racism reported to us on Friday, and this type of behavior is not tolerated," the spokesperson said in a statement. "We are proud of the inclusive nature of our university, and are actively investigating this incident."

ASU President Michael Crow echoed that in a statement of his own, emphasizing the university's anti-discrimination stance.

"To be clear, ASU condemns behaviors and actions that threaten or intimidate any individual or group of individuals on the basis of race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, veteran status, or any other particular status," he said. "We endeavor to remain vigilant and proactive in stamping out behavior that threatens the health and well-being of our community."
