Crews Battle Mulch Fire At City Of Tempe Compost Yard
The fire started Wednesday morning and crews from Tempe, Phoenix and Scottsdale fire departments were working to put it out.
TEMPE, AZ — A mulch fire at the city of Tempe's compost yard spewed foul smelling smoke into the air Wednesday morning as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The fire started around 10 a.m. Wednesday at the yard, just north of the intersection of Rio Salado Parkway and Priest Drive, according to Tempe Fire Medical Rescue.
Crews from Tempe Fire Medical Rescue and the Phoenix and Scottsdale fire department, along with Tempe's municipal utilities team, worked into the afternoon Wednesday to separate the mulch piles and contain the fire, according to Tempe Fire.

Fire officials believe the blaze started on the west end of the mulch pile. No injuries were reported as of Wednesday morning.
