1. Tempe still awaiting federal funding 2 months after microburst (azfamily.com) — Tempe is still waiting on a federal decision about disaster aid more than two months after a damaging microburst hit over 1,000 homes and businesses. While officials seek FEMA help, a “Tempe Needs You” fundraiser and low-interest SBA loans are offering some relief, especially for uncovered costs like work or school supplies. Residents and business owners can already apply for these loans.
   

2. Final decision on Kyrene Elementary School District closures expected Tuesday (abc15.com) — Kyrene Elementary School District leaders are set to vote tonight in Tempe on whether to close up to eight campuses, a move that could significantly reshape local school options for families. With enrollment down and millions in funding at stake, the board will choose among three closure plans affecting several elementary and middle schools that serve Tempe-area neighborhoods.
   

3. ASU researchers shed light on ancient tattoos in the Nile Valley (asu.edu) — ASU researchers working on the Tempe campus have used multispectral imaging to uncover 25 previously unknown tattooed individuals from ancient Nubian burials, nearly doubling prior finds from the Nile Valley. Their work reveals early Christian tattoo traditions, including on very young children, and suggests tattoos may have served medicinal as well as religious purposes, opening new questions for future study.

He insists he and the team can rebound, even as questions swirl about his job security, Kyler Murray’s tenure, and whether deeper organizational changes are coming.
   

5. Arizona teen who died in a motorcycle crash was missing from a group home (abc15.com) — A 17-year-old girl who died in a motorcycle crash on Loop 202 near the Priest exit in Tempe had been reported missing from a foster group home days earlier. Authorities say she left a licensed youth home in Surprise, and state child welfare officials report they notified required agencies and are cooperating with the investigation into her disappearance and death.
