Elderly Woman Dies In Thanksgiving Day Wrong-Way Crash On 202

A wrong-way driver on the 202 is accused of continuing on after hitting two vehicles, ending with a deadly head-on collision.

TEMPE, AZ — An elderly woman who was the passenger in a vehicle driving the wrong way on Loop 202 Freeway on Thanksgiving Day has died, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The vehicle driving the wrong way Thursday morning first hit a Department of Public Safety vehicle as well as another vehicle without causing any injuries, according to the Department of Public Safety. But the driver is accused of continuing to head the wrong way after those initial collisions, only stopping after hitting another vehicle head-on, causing serious injuries.

The collision happened on the Loop 202 near Loop 101 in Tempe.

The Department of Public Safety on Friday did not provide any additional information about the wreck or the identity of the woman was was killed.
