Free Rock It Up Concert Series Is Still On In Tempe This Fall

The series will bring national acts like Mod Sun to Tempe Marketplace.

TEMPE, AZ — Some fall events are already victim to COVID-cancellation, but Tempe Marketplace is still ready to rock. The Rock It Up fall concert series is back this year, featuring national acts like Grabbitz.

The series of four concerts comes from a collaboration of Tempe Marketplace, Dave & Busters and Arizona's alternative rock radio station, ALT AZ. The concerts are free, but capacity is limited and will be one a first come, first serve basis.

Dave & Buster’s will provide an outdoor bar at each concert. Masks are recommended for concert attendees, regardless of vaccination status, according to a press release.

The details:

Mod Sun, 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Tempe Marketplace

  • Mod Sun, also known as Derek Ryan Smith, has a style has been described as hippy hop, putting an electric spin on hip-hop, according to a news release. His most recent album, “Internet Killed the Rockstar” was released earlier this year.

Tessa Violet and Twin XL, 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Tempe Marketplace

  • Tessa Violet is an indie-pop singer and songwriter, as well as a video director, blogger, entrepreneur and actress. She'll be showcasing her recent album, “Bad Ideas” as well as singles “Role Model” and “Words Ain’t Enough.”
  • Twin XL is a trio made up of Cameron Walker-Wright and brothers Stephen and John Gomez. Their music features retro tunes, catchy bass lines and memorable melodies. Twin XL is set to open for Tessa Violet.

iDKHOW, 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Tempe Marketplace

  • Short for “I Don’t Know How but They Found Me,” iDKHOW is a duo featuring vocalist and bassist Dallon Weekes and drummer Ryan Seaman who play a blend of indie pop and electronic rock band. iDKHOW’s latest album, “Razzmatazz,” was released October 2020.

Grabbitz, 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Tempe Marketplace

  • Grabbitz, also known as Nick Chiari, had his beginnings in dance music and his work later evolved to a more alternative, genre-less hybrid, according to the news release. Grabbitz's “Someone Else” features no-frills guitar chords and grinding industrial electronica. The nod to Nine Inch Nails peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Alternative songs chart, No. 1 in Canada, and hit No. 23 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, according to the news release.
