Marquee Theatre Makes 'Proactive' Decision To Postpone Reopening
Tempe's Marquee Theatre was due to reopen Friday for concerts after a prolonged shutdown due to the coronavirus.

TEMPE, AZ — A local gem will postpone its planned reopening following an increase in coronavirus infections in the Valley and statewide.
Marquee Theatre announced the cancellation of several shows in a news release and on Facebook.
Marquee's management team said it is "being proactive and postponing due to continued increase in infections of Covid-19," according to The Arizona Republic.

Marquee was due to reopen for its first socially distant dine-in concert Friday with Yächtley Crëw, but the band's two shows will now take place on May 7 and 8 in 2021.

On Wednesday, the venue's Atomic Punks concert originally set for Dec. 12 was moved to Feb. 13, 2021 in light of an increase in coronavirus cases.

Arizona reported 5,442 new cases and 82 deaths Thursday. Maricopa County, where Marquee is based, accounted for 3, 549 cases and 44 deaths.
Marquee said that all tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored on the new ones. If you purchased tickets and can't attend the new dates, an email was sent with instructions for how to obtain a refund.
The rest of the schedule still stands for now, though more updates are expected soon as cases continue to rise:
- Authority Zero — Dec. 18 (two shows)
- Geoff Tate of Queensryche — Dec. 19
- Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers — Dec. 26-27 (two shows daily)
- Spafford — Dec. 30-31
- Iron Maidens — Jan. 8
- Super Diamond — Jan. 23 (two shows)
- No Quarter — Jan. 30
- Buckcherry — April 14
When the shows do go on, dine-in guests will be seated in pods of six to 10 people with each pod spaced six feet apart. All pod members will need to enter the venue at the same time.
Marquee will be serving food from local restaurant Hot Bamboo and the bar will be open for cashless purchases made via the Rooam app.
The first in a series of Marquee Backyard concerts — a socially distant concert experience behind the venue — will happen on Dec. 30 with local band Spafford. They'll also play on New Year's Eve.
