The road will be widened and a third southbound lane added between Del Rio and Broadway over the next seven months.

TEMPE, AZ —The Tempe Transportation Division has announced it will resume the McClintock Drive Construction Project later this month on a stretch of McClintock between Del Rio Drive and Broadway Road. The latest work will involve adding a third southbound travel lane, while maintaining bicycle lanes.

This phase of the project is scheduled to begin March 22, and is expected to take approximately seven months to complete.

According to the Transportation Division, the work will entail widening the roadway to accommodate three southbound lanes, two northbound lanes, turn lanes and bike lanes. Other improvements include: pavement reconstruction and striping, sidewalk and curb work, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, new traffic signal poles, lighting replacements and other related work.

In recent years, work on McClintock has included: The 2015 repaving of a stretch between Broadway Road and Guadalupe Road and reconfiguring McClintock to include bike lanes on each side of the street, which required the removal of at least one vehicle lane.

In March 2018, a third southbound travel lane was added to McClintock between Del Rio Drive and Baseline Road. This also involved restriping both northbound and southbound lanes to include buffered bike lanes.

According to the Transportation Division, the changes to McClintock Drive are aligned with the Tempe City Council's priority to reduce travel time along major streets during peak travel hours.
