TEMPE, AZ —The Arizona State football program added a Super Bowl winner to its coaching staff Monday with the announcement that Brian Billick has been hired as an offensive analyst and advisor to head coach Herm Edwards, the school said in a press release.

Billick, 67, coached the Baltimore Ravens for nine seasons from 1999-2007, compiling a record of 85-67, including a Super Bowl XXXV win over the New York Giants in 2001.

"I have known (Billick) since the 1980s and he is a person whom I completely trust," Edwards said. "He has built one of the finest reputations the NFL has ever known, serving as a head coach, an assistant coach and as a respected television analyst.

"Brian has one of the brightest offensive minds in football today and that is especially why I hired him. He will serve as a valuable resource to our entire coaching staff, but specifically to our offensive staff."

Billick, who currently works as an analyst for NFL Network, joins a Sun Devils' coaching staff that already includes former longtime NFL head coach Marvin Lewis, who just completed his third season in the program. Lewis has served as interim defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator, and he currently is an advisor.

Edwards also was an NFL head coach with the Kansas City Chief and New York Jets.

"I have known Coach Edwards for over 40 years and both (ASU Athletic Director) Ray Anderson and Marvin Lewis for almost that long," Billick said. "They proposed this opportunity to me, to have another set of eyes looking at and evaluating Sun Devil football and I thought it was the right time for me to make this move.

"I love what they are doing at ASU. It's all about structure in the NFL and hopefully, that's what I can bring to the table at ASU. My work for the last 12 years in television at Fox and the NFL Network has allowed me to take a step back and see the game from a different angle. It broadened my perspective and that is what I will bring to this position."

Arizona State finished 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the Pac-12 this past season, losing 20-13 to Wisconsin in the Las Vegas Bowl.
