Tempe Launches $1.1M Grant For Small Businesses

The city of Tempe will offer $1.1 million in grants Oct. 12 for small businesses struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.

TEMPE, AZ — The city of Tempe is launching its first grant program to offer aid to small businesses continuing to struggle due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Applications for $1.1 million in financial aid through the Tempe Small Business Grant Program will open Oct. 12 for the city's small businesses impacted by the virus, according to a news release the city. It is a joint endeavor between the city of Tempe and the Arizona Community Foundation.

Businesses may be awarded up to $10,000 in funding, based on the number of full-time staff employed. Applications will close Oct. 30. In order to be considered eligible, you must be a private, for-profit business "with a physical commercial establishment within the city of Tempe" and commit to staying within Tempe city limits through April 2021. Businesses operating out of a home or mobile unit are not eligible at this time.

Businesses must employ under 100 staffers and earn less than $5 million in gross annual income. The application will require several Internal Revenue Service Forms and documentation verifying the address of each business. Money will be awarded as applications are received on a first-come, first-served basis.
