Tempe Offering Free Youth Transit Pass Program

Tempe children ages 6-18 can sign up for a free Youth Transit Pass beginning next Monday. Here's what to know about the program.

TEMPE, AZ — Kids between the age of 6 and 18 in Tempe and Guadalupe can sign up for a free transit pass on all Valley Metro Rail and bus routes, starting May 10.

That's because sign ups for Tempe's free Youth Transit Pass program are open now.

Interested participants can sign up at the Tempe Transit Store from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 and August 7, the city said.

Additionally, students at Tempe high schools, such as Tempe and McClintock high schools, and those that live in Tempe or Guadalupe, can sign up for passes at their respective schools, according to the city.

The free fare program is funded by the half-cent sales tax for transit operations and improvements that was passed by Tempe residents in 1996.
