2 Tucson Students Named To University Honor Roll, Dean's List

The academic achievements of two Tucson students got them named to a dean's list and an honor society. Do you know these students?

TUCSON, AZ – Two academic achievers from Tucson were named to their schools’ dean’s list and honor society at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., and Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, respectively:

Anna Perez of Tucson was named to Mississippi College’s Spring 2019 Dean’s list, the university recently announced. To qualify for a place on the Dean’s List, students must earn a GPA of at least 3.5 based on a 4.0 grading scale, and be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours of classes.

Mississippi College was founded in 1826 and is a private, Christian, co-ed liberal arts and sciences university with 5,000 students from 40 countries, one U.S. territory and 42 states. It is the country’s second-oldest Baptist university, and “seeks to be a university recognized for academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ,” university officials said in a release.

It offers 84 undergraduate subjects and 50 graduate degrees including a doctor of professional counseling, doctor of educational leadership and doctor of jurisprudence.

Corey Seemiller of Tucson was inducted into Wright State University’s Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. To be initiated into the society, members must be invited to join and approved and nominated by a chapter. Members in their senior year of studies must be in the top 10 percent of their class, while juniors must be in the top 7.5 percent. The top 10 percent of graduate students are also eligible for consideration.

Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi has 300 chapters on university campuses in the Philippines and in the U.S. Phi Kappa Phi’s goal is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others,” university officials wrote.

Famous former Phi Kappa Phi members include astronaut Wendy Lawrence, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, YouTube Cofounder Chad Hurley and novelist John Grisham.
