📰 News we're reading

1. Tucson theaters react to possible impact from Warner Bros. deal (kold.com) — Tucson movie theaters like The Loft and Roadhouse Cinema are bracing for possible changes if Netflix or Paramount buys Warner Bros., which could shorten theatrical release windows. Local operators say they’ll lean on unique experiences, community events, and specialty programming to keep Tucsonans coming out to the movies despite the streaming shake-up.

2. South Tucson community remembers those affected by TCE groundwater contamination (kold.com) — Residents on Tucson’s southside gathered at Mission Manor Park to honor loved ones harmed by decades-old TCE groundwater contamination and hear about new city support. City officials presented a resolution reaffirming funding, research, and efforts to address environmental inequities and lingering health impacts in South Tucson. Community members shared emotional stories while pushing for more answers and long-term protections.

3. Supervisors to vote on Project Blue deal on clean energy-use, STEM investments (tucson.com) — Pima County supervisors will vote Tuesday on a Project Blue agreement that ties a new data center to renewable energy matching, air-cooling, and strict water management standards. The deal also includes $15 million for local STEM scholarships and other community priorities, potentially shaping jobs, education, and infrastructure for Tucson-area residents for years to come.

4. Arizona History: December 14-December 20 (dcourier.com) — An Arizona history roundup this week recalls an 1889 Tucson jury acquitting all defendants in the notorious Wham robbery case, where an Army paymaster was robbed of more than $28,000. The piece also highlights milestones from Nogales, the University of Arizona, and a 2010 border shooting that exposed the “Fast and Furious” gun-smuggling scandal.
