Arizona Monsoon: Could This Be Tucson's Wettest On Record?

This year is currently the third-wettest but there's a possibility of rain in the forecast before the monsoon ends later this week.

TUCSON, AZ — So far, 2021 has been Tucson's third-wettest monsoon on record, according to the National Weather Service. The monsoon ends Thursday, but with possible rain in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday, there's at least chance this year could move to No. 1 or No. 2.

As of Monday, Tucson had received 12.78 inches of rain this monsoon, compared to its typical 5.69 inches, according to National Weather Service data. The No. 1 year was 1964 with 13.84 inches and the No. 2 spot was 1955 with 13.08 inches.

The area's driest Monsoon on record was in 1924 when Tucson received a meager 1.52 inches. And in sharp contrast to this year, 2020 took the No. 2 driest spot with 1.62 inches, according to weather service data.

Tucson has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms Wednesday night with a 30 percent chance continuing into Thursday, according to the weather service forecast.
