'Dedicated' Tucson Leader Makes Positive Impact On Animals & People
Marcie Velen was the driving force behind starting No Kill Pima County (a grassroots 501c3) in 2012.

Tucson, AZ — Without community leaders, Tucson wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.
This submission comes from Karyn Zoldan, a Tucson Patch reader who nominated Marcie Velen.

Community organizer for animal welfare.
Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?
She is a thoughtful and inspiring leader who was the driving force behind starting No Kill Pima County (a grassroots 501c3) in 2012 by establishing initiatives for spay/neuter; mass free/inexpensive microchipping; develop resources to unite lost pets with their people; helping people keep their pets by offering funds and resources for affordable vet services; promotes waiting and worthy pets who are often overlooked at the shelter. In another leadership role with the Human Animal Bond committee, a program was established with the collaboration of organizations that deliver meals to humans in need to add pet food to the deliveries. She has also sat on other animal boards. I may be forgetting some accolades.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?
She's dedicated and follows through.
