Former National Guard Nonprofit President Sentenced For Embezzling: AG

The woman was found guilty of embezzling money from the Tucson nonprofit Jimmy Jet Foundation, which serves the AZ National Guard.

TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson woman was sentenced to probation and jail time after being convicted for embezzling money from a nonprofit that serves Arizona National Guard’s 162nd Fighter Wing, according to the Arizona Attorney General's Office.

Amy Lyn O’Neill was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in jail and four years of probation after being convicted of one count of solicitation to commit theft.

O'Neill was indicted in December of last year after being accused of embezzling money from the nonprofit, which serves members of the 162nd Fighter Wing and their families, along with the Tucson community. She was convicted for using money from the nonprofit from October 2019 through May 2021, when she was president of the organization, to:

  • Make more than $9,600 in personal mortgage payments;
  • Make more than $37,700 in personal credit card payments;
  • Make more than $18,600 in personal ATM withdrawals; and
  • Make more than $18,600 in personal purchases.

As part of a sentencing agreement with the Attorney General's Office, O'Neill will have to fully repay $84,444 in restitution to the Jimmy Jet Foundation, including $65,000 that she paid before being sentenced.

O’Neill was also accused of transferring $79,000 from one Jimmy Jet Foundation bank account to a different bank account for the nonprofit to cover up personal purchases she's accused of making with the nonprofit's money. The Jimmy Jet Foundation recovered those funds.
