TUCSON, AZ — Rain is headed for Tucson again, with heavy snow possible in the nearby mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered showers are expected to hit Tucson Thursday night, with showers on and off likely on New Year's Eve, with brief instances of heavy downpour possible. There's a 90 percent chance of rain Friday during the day with a 100 percent chance of rain Friday night, according to the weather service forecast.
Rainfall totals are expected to be between one-quarter of an inch, up to 1 inch through Saturday.

Snow is expected at elevations of 8,000-8,500 feet beginning Thursday night with snow expected at elevations of 6,500-7,000 beginning Friday afternoon into the evening.
The expected high on New Year's Eve is 62 degrees in Tucson, with an overnight low around 43. The expected high on New Year's Day is 53, with a chilly overnight low around 30.
