Got Clutter? Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Might Help

Tucson's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Dec. 7 helps residents throw away clutter they might not otherwise know how to get rid of.

TUCSON, AZ — Almost every household has it — or them. Those things you just don’t know how to throw away … like old paint, pesticides, button batteries, cleaning products, auto fluids and engine oil filters perhaps. Or what about car batteries or anything labeled “poison,” “toxic,” “danger” or “warning”? Well, the City of Tucson aims to stop such angst among its residents by hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday, Dec. 7.

City residents can drop their household hazardous waste at the city’s Eastside Service Center at 7575 E. Speedway Blvd. Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. Or Tucson residents can drop it off at the 244 W. Sweetwater Dr. main site Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Another option is dropping household hazardous waste at the Los Reales Landfill at 5300 E. Los Reales Road Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tucson residents won’t be charged to drop off their household hazardous waste at any of those locales. However, residents from Sahuarita, Oro Valley, Marana or unincorporated areas will pay a $10 dropoff fee. Proof of residence is required for all.

For those who are homebound or ill on Dec. 7 or just prefer a pickup, the City of Tucson’s Environmental & General Services Department also offers pickup to city residents, for a $25 fee that will appear on their next monthly bill from the city. To schedule a household hazardous waste home pickup, call 520-791-3171 or complete an online service request.
