According to the "Beyond Van Gogh" website, the show breaks barriers by incorporating both still and moving art, and it showcases over 300 of the artist's works including classics like "The Starry Night," "Sunflowers" and "Café Terrace at Night."
"Masterpieces, now freed from frames, come alive, appear and disappear, flow across multi-surfaces, the minutia of details titillating our heightened senses," the website declares. "The show is projected on every surface around you, this makes you feel as though you have stepped directly into a Van Gogh painting."
The exhibition was created by French-Canadian creative director Mathieu St. Arnaud, and it's even accompanied by a soundtrack that is available on Spotify.
In a 2021 review in the exhibition for TimeOut Chicago, Zach Long was impressed by the show.
"If you're eager for a peek at what could be the future of experiential art, 'Immersive Van Gogh' is a visual spectacle that balances eye-popping photo-ops with a survey of the artist's work that's more comprehensive than any single physical exhibit could possibly manage," Long wrote.
On the exhibition's website, Holly Pratt, of Ottawa, Ontario, said the show is for the whole family.
"'Beyond Van Gogh' was so beautiful and moving. What an amazing new way to experience art. The kids loved it too—highly recommend," Pratt said.
