Prevent Lost Pets Amid New Year's 2021 Fireworks: Animal Control
Pima Animal Care Center took in 57 dogs on Tuesday alone. Learn how to keep your pet safe at home.

TUCSON, AZ — As the people of Tucson begin early New Year's celebrations by shooting off fireworks, that unfortunately means spooked animals are already going missing.
With Pima Animal Care Center still overrun, with eight dogs in makeshift kennels, the fewer animals that go missing over the holiday, the better.
According to a Facebook post, on Tuesday the care center took in a whopping 57 dogs, but it also adopted out or fostered 77 dogs.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has some advice for pet owners to ensure their furry friends stay at home where they belong:
- Keep pets indoors as much as possible and keep them on a leash when outside, even in your own yard.
- Make sure your dog is always wearing a collar with tags that have your current contact information.
- If your pet has a microchip, ensure the information registered with it is current.
- Make sure your pet has a safe place to hide if they feel scare. You can help your pet associate their hiding place with positive memories by using favorite bedding, toys and treats.
- In case your pet does escape, make sure you have an updated, clear photo of your pet to share.
