Primavera Student Finds Flexibility and Freedom with Online Learning
Primavera provides Anna Cummings with the flexibility to pursue extracurricular activities and the freedom to develop a passion for writing.

Primavera Online School, a tuition-free, public charter school that educates students in grades K-12 throughout Arizona, is designed to allow students to partake in a learning environment catered to their needs. Whether they need an extra lift with tutors to improve their grades or are looking to pursue a future career as an author, Primavera’s online model allows students to indulge their interests without compromising their education.
Anna Cummings, a ninth-grade student at Primavera, joined the online school after struggling in a traditional classroom setting. Looking for flexibility and more one-on-one time with teachers, Anna’s parents decided it was time to try something new.
“Anna is an exceptional student, but when it came to learning in a typical classroom, she had trouble retaining information and understanding lessons,” said Lacey Cummings, Anna’s mother. “Since she has joined Primavera, we have seen her grades soar and she is beginning to find more enjoyment in her hobbies. The flexibility of an online school like Primavera allows us to form her learning schedule to what we have going on in our lives. Rather than spending eight hours in a school building and coming home to do hours of homework, Anna can choose when she tackles her classes and homework and can make sure it fits her personal schedule as well.”

Outside of Primavera, Anna is heavily involved in many extracurricular activities, including chorus, drama and volleyball. In part because of the added schedule flexibility available by attending the online school, Anna has also discovered a new passion of hers: writing.
“Anna would one day like to become a published author,” Lacey continued. “She has always had a love for her English classes and after becoming close with her synchronous teacher who is a published author, she has made that her dream.”

Anna’s teacher, Ashley Skolrud, received her MFA in Creative Writing from Lindenwood University and is a newly published author. Her first book, The Witching Hour, came out in September 2023 - much to her students’ delight as she incorporated parts of the book into her classes.
“It’s always so inspiring seeing students find themselves and their passions during their time in school,” said Ashley. “Anna is an incredibly bright and energetic student who brings a dedication to learning to her classes, but also the clubs that she’s involved in. I am truly honored to be both her English Teacher and her Dungeons and Dragons Club Advisor. I am excited to see what the future holds for her.”
