Tucson PD Prepares For Potential Trouble Ahead of Inauguration

The Tucson Police Department said it doesn't expect trouble before Inauguration Day, but it will be ready if it happens.

TUCSON, AZ — The Tucson Police Department is taking several steps to promote public safety as Inauguration Day approaches, the department said in a news release.

Officers don't expect any local trouble, but police are determined to maintain order ahead of Jan. 20 and will take every precaution after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol last week.

The department said it will work with federal and state law enforcement agencies to coordinate a response to any potential violence, ensure it has enough staff on hand, take a no-tolerance approach to any illegal harassment or intimidation and coordinate with police chiefs in other major cities to identify early warning signs of trouble.

The department added that it did not believe any of its officers were involved at the Capitol riot in Washington on Jan. 6. Several law enforcement agencies across the country are investigating their employees' activities at the Capitol.

The Tucson department said it "[trusts] that no department member was involved in criminal activity; however, if the department received such information, those allegations would be thoroughly investigated."
