Tucson Police Department Gets $90,000K Grant To Combat DUI

$90,000 was recently awarded to the Tucson Police Department, enabling them to ramp up local DUI-combatting efforts.

TUCSON, AZ — The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety recently awarded a $90,000 grant to the Tucson Police Department to help ramp up local efforts to combat DUI and decrease resulting deaths and injuries.

The grant will pay for employee-related expenses and personnel support in TPD’s efforts to expand DUI-combatting efforts in Tucson. Specifically, it will fund additional officers who will engage in high-visibility saturation patrols and DUI deployments, particularly on weekend evenings and holidays. These saturation patrols and deployments aim to investigate DUI offenses, raise drivers’ awareness of DUI dangers and lower numbers of DUI motorists by stopping impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel.

The additional funding will also enable the Tucson Police Department to participate in 10 scheduled weekend DUI deployments in addition to saturation patrols alongside other law enforcement agencies joining in the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force this year, TPD Officer Ray Smith reported.
